Sierra Bella Turquoise Necklace on Reticulated Silver
Materials:sterling silver, turquoise
Reticulation is one of those techniques I always love playing with. You heat sterling silver sheet with the torch until parts of the surface hit their melting point, and the metal starts to ripple and pull and find its own shape. You are steering it, sort of, but the silver has its own ideas. The edges go rugged and free form. No two pieces ever look the same.
For this necklace, I reticulated a sheet of silver into a small free form base, then set a Sierra Bella turquoise right in the middle of it. The stone is that clear bright green Sierra Bella is known for, with soft copper matrix drifting through the top. Set against the rippled silver, it looks like something you might find washed up or dug out, already whole.
Sierra Bella comes from the Sonora mountains in Mexico. The color is what pulls me every time.
Both chain and pendant were given a patina so the shadows settle in and the green comes forward. One of a kind, made by my hands from start to finish.
