Blue Ridge Turquoise Ring in Sterling Silver, Size 9.25

Most of this collection went green. Emerald Valley, and Sonora Gold. So when I pulled out this Blue Ridge, I knew right away it had to be part of the collection. The blue is soft and clear, like harbor water in early morning, with pale cloudy patches drifting through it. The whole collection needed this color.

I set the stone in a long oval bezel that sits low on the finger, wider than it is tall. The band is a little over a quarter inch wide, and along both edges I ran a dimpled texture, not evenly spaced or perfectly aligned, just carved in one at a time until the border felt right. Patina finish everywhere, which sinks into all those little dimples and makes them read as a shadow instead of silver.

Blue Ridge turquoise, also known as Orvil Jack, comes from Nevada. The mine is small and no longer worked, so the stones out there now are what's out there. Blue Ridge is known for pale blues and greens with soft matrix, quieter in color than some Nevada mines but with a real presence.
