Beach Stone Pendant with Suede Cord

This stone came home in my pocket from a Cape Cod beach. It had a naturally flat top, which made it the perfect candidate for an end cap setting — a technique where a fabricated sterling silver cap is riveted directly to the stone. To do that I drilled through the stone and secured the cap with a silver tube grommet, which you can just make out at the center of the end cap. It looks dark against the stone but it is open — a small window right through the piece.

The end cap itself is textured sterling silver with an oxidized patina that settles into all the detail work. The suede cord is knotted to the bail and the hook clasp is handmade —  sterling silver, riveted to the cord. Nothing about this piece is off the shelf.

The stone is exactly as I found it. I never alter the shape.
