What tools should I buy?

What tools should I buy?

When I first started seriously diving into the world of jewelry making, knowing what tools to buy was a bit confusing. Of course I wanted every tool possible but that was some what above my budget. Tools are a bit of a shiny object syndrome for me and many makers.

I also purchased many tools that I didn't really need at the time because I simply did not know how to use them or for what technique they were used for. Jewelry making is a lot like math. If you do not know the basics, and build a good foundation, it is hard to move forward. So don't fall into the tool trap like me. When you are first starting out, stick to the basic tools and focus on honing your foundation skills, like soldering, sawing, texturing and polishing. This way, you won't have to cash in your 401k. Once you feel comfortable with your skill level, you can move onto the shiny new tools. However, even after 15 years of making jewelry I still have a very long list of tools that I do not have and want to buy. LOL

I put together a list of tools you need and added some extra tools I wish I had when I first started out. There are also live links on where to purchase. I tried to keep things at a reasonable budget, and the tool list if great for all levels.
